Gustav Klimt is well-known Austrian artist, one of the most outstanding modernists. The main subject of his paintings is a female body, and most of his work are marked by a frank eroticism.

Gustav Klimt was born in Baumgarten, near Vienna in Austria-Hungary.

Works

His early work consisted mainly of large murals for theaters and were written in a naturalistic style.

In 1897, Klimt became one of the founders and president of the Vienna Secession.

In 1894, Klimt was asked to paint the ceiling of the Great Hall of the University of Vienna. His work was very criticized and even called “pornographic”.

“Golden Age” of Klimt’s painting, which had a positive reaction was the most successful one. This age called “golden”, because of the painter’s special works of those years.

His works have own unrepeatable style and gracefulness, they attract the viewer and it is unbelievable!

Gustav Klimt’s all-know brilliant work is “The Kiss” with its flat, unshaded surfaces, bright mosaic colors and shape.

Enjoy it!
